Homeschool Mother's Journal 8/13/11

In our homeschool this week…
This week I reorganized our homeschool curriculum and schedule.  We are starting our first quarter on Monday.  Our summer session included only 12 days of school from the first of June through this past week.  We stopped doing school when life got crazy in July, so I lost a whole month of my planning.  Instead of trying to fix it I threw it out and wrote up new plans.
This quarter goes through October 15th, with a day off for Labor Day, Columbus Day and the Friday before Columbus Day.  It will be an intense 9 weeks, but I need to crack the whip so that we can get a schedule and stick to it.  In the second quarter we have a whole week off for Thanksgiving, and then we have two weeks off around Christmas between semesters.  We get another two weeks off at Easter and our school year will end mid-May.   We'll take a week off, and then do another lower-intensity summer session.
I like year-round schooling for many reasons, but I think the summer school days will be more unit-studies and less of the "school year" curricula.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Nothing. No where. No one.  I am so tired of traveling, so I think this week will be a week off of doing major things.  I want to be at home, go grocery shopping, be a house wife, and not go on any trips. We all need a regular schedule at this point.
My favorite thing this week was…
Coming home!  We have been off and on away from this house since mid-July and I am so glad not to have anything on my schedule that takes me away for a while. A long while...

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
"The mother-child relationship is paradoxical and, in a sense, tragic. It requires the most intense love on the mother's side, yet this very love must help the child grow away from the mother, and to become fully independent. "
~Erich Fromm
This quote makes me a little sad, but it is inspirational to remember why we are doing what we do.
